Dialysis Support Program

Dialysis needs can often pose a special hardship for those patients who are in a short- term or extended stay, as they travel back and forth to a dialysis center and undergo time- consuming treatment. At The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant, we are pleased to be able to offer our guests the convenience of an on-site dialysis center that helps to reduce some of the strain, stress and time loss normally associated with this type of treatment regimen.

Program Protocol

The on-site dialysis facility is an integral and unique portion of our comprehensive Dialysis Support Program. This program offers respite, short-term skilled and long-term residential services designed to meet the needs of patients with end-stage renal disease. The Laurels' Dialysis Support Program is appropriate for adult patients who have an established diagnosis and who are currently stabilized in their general medical condition (e.g. stable cardiac status). Attending physicians are welcome to follow their patient's participation in our Medically Complex Programs, but if that is not feasible, a member of the Laurels' medical staff will attend to the patient.

Program Design

The Laurels' staff is trained in the special dietary requirements, fluid management, and common needs of end-stage renal patients. The Laurels can further offer end-stage renal patients:

• IV antibiotic therapy
• Enteral nutrition
• Wound care
• In-house rehabilitation for any related neurologic disorders and/or general deconditioning

We work closely with our guest, family, attending physician, consulting nephrologist, and the dialysis center team to deliver a comprehensive plan of care designed to maximize the guest's quality of life.
